The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts is pleased to announce an open call for artists to submit work to our juried exhibition, Breaching the Margins, which opens ‪May 10, 2019‬. Theme: Societies often attempt to deny marginalized groups of people avenues for social inclusion and space to articulate self-defined identities. However, art can be an active force that supersedes societal relegations, and a catalyst to give power to groups who were formerly powerless. With this open call, artists are challenged to examine ideas that work against the social exclusion of marginalized groups, be it in culture, spaces, or society. All mediums are accepted. All artist who have work accepted into the show will receive a stipend. The Pharmacy are looking for artists to submit work for an upcoming exhibition based around Mark Fisher’s ‘The Weird and the Eerie’, Sigmund Freud’s ‘Uncanny’, Mike Kelley’s Uncanny exhibition and surrealism. DEADLINE Sunday 11th November 2018 Submit proposals to pharmacy_arts@yahoo.com Artists from all countries are welcome to submit. Local artists or artists within a travelling distance are welcome to submit works in any medium: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, textiles, installation, mixed media, digital, film etc. International Artists are welcome to submit 2D works (photography & digital art) and film. There is no fee to enter and to save on all costs for artists we will be printing out 2D works on photographic paper and films will be downloaded for the exhibition. This means that international artists can show work without spending any money. We have a selection of TV’s and projectors for films so a download link should be acceptable. The proposal should include: · a short artist statement (around 100 words) · A few sentences describing the work you are proposing to exhibit · hi-res images (72 – 300 dpi) · Any other visuals including website or video links The Pharmacy is an independent non-profit artist-run space in Carlisle, England.
