What are your thoughts of Mart Biemans (@StudioOpmars) logo redesign from last weeks episode of Logo Therapy? . Swipe across to Image 2 to see the original logo by Blodgett Matthew Stephen. The first issue addressed on the show was the lack of clarity of what the company was actually called. Do you think it says 'Ill design' or does it look like Roman numerals for '3 design'? . Mart went with 'ill design' and if you scroll across to Image 6 you'll see his entire process from sketches to final design. Mart had never drawn a unicorn before so he experimented with angles and line thickness. He said he didn't like the type or the shadow effect in the original so he used Photoshop to work on these issues through his sketches. . Mart decided to put the word 'ill' inside the unicorn symbol and fit it into a square to ensure nothing is loose. This ensures legibility for when the mark is shown on bigger or smaller applications. Mart said he spends about 25% of time on type and the rest of the time on symbol because symbol is more important to him. Do you think the mark or the type should hierarchy of importance over one another? . NEW PROJECT⁣ - Element Villas⁣⁣⁣ 1st concept . Element Villas is a subsidiary of Energetics, specialized in building mobile, modern and modular container homes. . The first concept is analyzing two key words for Element Villas' business philosophy - modularity and home. . MODULARITY is referring to modules that, by connection each other, form a model or a bigger structure.⁣⁣ The final goal of modularity is being achieved by repetition - by repeating every unit/module. . HOME - a place where we feel protected. But what can describe this special kind of protection?⁣⁣ This wasn't a situation to use a shield as a symbol for protection so I aimed for something else - a roof. A roof is symbolizing the essence of a shelter and protection.⁣⁣ The roof shields us from the elements, keeps us comfortable inside and provides us with the security we need. .
