Pierce Alan Jewett graduated a day earlier than expected, and it was the greatest celebration filled with the happiest of tears. We love the people working at North Central Baptist NICU like family. Our baby is alive and thriving because of this incredible team. So many special individuals couldn’t attend P’s graduation because they were caring for other precious babies, but they were there in spirit. We felt you all. We’ve been home almost 24 hours, after 109 NICU days, and it feels so right. Sometimes we whisper like we’re telling secrets . At the end of this video, you can see that Lily is speaking but not making any noise. Sometimes, depending on the position of her trach, she can’t get any air up to her vocal chords. As her lungs grow stronger it will be easier for her to push air and talk, but for now we’re working on managing the frustration that comes with inability to consistently communicate. With our therapists, we’re introducing some basic sign language and working to keep her calm when she doesn’t feel heard. . . #nicugraduate #nicugrad #micropreemie #24weeker #preemie #preemielife #preemiejourney #nicu #nicubaby #niculife #nicujourney #trach #tracheostomy #trachbaby #tubie #gtube #gtubebaby #medicallycomplex #iugr #twin #survivingtwin #twinlesstwin #medicallyfragile #preemiepower #preemiestrong #rebeltrachmoms #nicutonow

This little monster is down for the count again. Her trach stoma is colonized with MSSA (methicillin-susceptible staphylococcus aureus) and is prone to flare ups during times of stress. She’s been popping teeth like a mad woman, which has allowed the MSSA to invade again. This is something that most trach kiddos experience- colonization of a super bug is very common and very annoying. She’s needing more oxygen, working harder to breathe, and relatively lethargic. We’re working hard to avoid hospitalization, so for the next several days you can find us in quarantine, glued to the couch, in our @dockatot throne, watching Netflix ✌ . In all seriousness, this weekend was supposed to be Lil’s birthday/thank you party for our NICU staff. We’re incredibly sad to have to postpone it, but keeping this babe safe is our number one priority . . #nicugraduate #nicugrad #micropreemie #24weeker #preemie #preemielife #preemiejourney #nicu #nicubaby #niculife #nicujourney #trach #tracheostomy #trachbaby #tubie #gtube #gtubebaby #medicallycomplex #iugr #twin #survivingtwin #twinlesstwin #medicallyfragile #preemiepower #preemiestrong #rebeltrachmoms #nicutonow

#DearBabylist: "Sloane has been nothing short of fierce and persistent along her journey. At 20 weeks we learned she has a limb difference in her left arm. This brought us to various specialists to become educated and prepared. She's the newest member of the @lucky_fin_project! After examination they believe it was related to a tiny blood clot and not amniotic band syndrome. She left the safety of my body 7 weeks early, under emergency circumstances with uncertainty around her health. She’s our proof miracles are real as she continues to be healthy and fight everyday. Although small, she is mighty! I’ll be honest, when we learned of her arm during our 20 week sonogram, it was difficult initially; as we almost felt a loss for her arm. We quickly shifted our minds to being grateful for a healthy growing baby, knowing we will encourage her to be confident and never tell her she cannot do certain tasks. Our goal is to provide resources and tools for her to use as she deems necessary, ultimately finding her own path to success!" - @m.kudrna #BabylistBabes #limbdifference #limbdifferenceawareness #nicuwarrior #nicubaby #parenthood #parenthoodjourney #tinyandmighty #luckyfinproject #luckyfinclub #tenfingersareoverrated #wonderfullymade

I wrote about our first 3 weeks in the NICU! Link in bio to read the blog post. These pictures were from the first time we were able to hold our babies! I don’t think there’s anything better than little baby snuggles I’m holding Violet and Adam is holding Milo. We switch who we hold everyday and can’t get enough of our babies!

"We’ve joined a fraternity of NICU parents, a club we never thought of before, but now can never forget. We’re so happy our son is leaving, but our hearts hang heavy for those we left behind." After 3 weeks in the NICU, Danielle Fishel brings her baby home! How did you feel when your little one came home? Did you connect with other parents while in the NICU? 'Getting out' consists of our backyard at the moment, but after the last few months it is totally worth it to avoid the germs & keep us healthy (even if all of my conversations involve cars, trucks and the newest craze - excavators). With everything that has happened over the past couple of months I feel as though I haven't truly been able to relax and just enjoy Jack in all his newborn goodness, but today I sat and just soaked him in. Now that he is 'well', he is so alert and responsive, and is giving huge smiles in response to my high pitched Mum voice (yes, we all do it!) It feels so good to finally be together in our own environment doing what some may call mundane, routine things...but it's us, it's home and it's everything I have been praying for ♡

1%. That’s the chance one doctor gave Lexie and Brock’s unborn daughter, Harper, of surviving delivery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was sobering news. Harper had fluid buildup throughout her body and was small for her age. A day later doctors diagnosed her with Turner syndrome, a condition in girls that makes them shorter, causes infertility and increases the risk for other complications. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “We decided immediately we wanted to give her every chance she had to fight,” said Lexie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 28 weeks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s when everything changed. Though the fluid throughout Harper’s body had cleared, doctors noticed that there was poor blood flow from the umbilical cord, which was affecting Harper’s heart rate. They sent Lexie to the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado for the rest of her pregnancy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After a week, nurses noticed that Harper’s heart rate kept bouncing. Once, it didn’t bounce back up. Our team rushed Lexie into an emergency caesarian section where they successfully delivered Harper, who weighed in at just 2 pounds, 15 ounces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “The second I saw her looking so perfect and normal I let out a sigh of relief I had been holding in for 10 weeks,” says Lexie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 95 days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s how long Harper would stay in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She needed oxygen support, two surgeries and hours and hours with our occupational, feeding, physical and speech therapists. It took a lot of hard work, but she has been hitting her developmental milestones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Harper’s long-term prognosis is excellent. And though she still needs therapy each week, Lexie says Harper is “absolutely thriving” at home. From the beginning, their family had a very different mindset about being in the NICU. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Most women fear that, but for us it was the absolute best case scenario, because she had made it and we were told for so long that she wouldn’t,” says Lexie. “I have nothing but amazing things to say about both Children’s Colorado’s maternal fetal medicine and NICU teams – exceptional doctors and the best of the best nurses.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #HereItsDifferent #NICU #NICUBaby #TurnerSyndrome #TurnerSyndromeMoms
