Some of you may have noticed this vehicle parked right next to the XLR in the last post. This is a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi Sport SLS. Normally, I wouldn’t really post a car 2010+ but there are some exceptions, such as this beautiful set of four wheels. Introduced in 2009 for the 2010 model year, the Kizashi was definitely one of the more unique and better liked cars produced by Suzuki. It was extremely underrated in my opinion, and its production lifespan only lasted three model years, 2010-2013 to be exact. Unfortunately, sales weren’t so hot, and that was the main reason the Suzuki Kizashi failed, despite the good qualities and fresh appearance that this car carried. Under the hood, Suzuki equipped the Kizashi with a 2.4L 4 Cylinder engine. With 185 horsepower (correct me if wrong), the Sport SLS l can hit 60 mph in about 7.1 seconds. Stopping distance from 60-0 is about 129 feet. Transmission options included a 6 speed manual or a more common optional CVT automatic. Styling: something that Suzuki greatly achieved when they designed the Kizashi imo. In the frontal shots, you may notice a special Suzuki hood protector and beautiful projector beam headlamps. Since this is a Sport SLS, this is the top trim level, meaning that it comes with some optional back up sensors and light alloy wheels. In the back, this Kizashi has the decklid spoiler and also has a dual exhaust system, accompanied with chrome tips. Overall, there’s no doubt that this is a sharp looking car that still looks pretty modern today. 2013 Suzuki Kizashi _____ Fun fact: "Kizashi" is Japanese for either 'something great is coming' OR 'warning'. Suzuki teased everyone with 3 different Kizashi concept cars since 2007, and finally launched the car in its production form in 2009. While it was meant to compete with the Civics and Corollas of the time, it wasn't a bad offering at all. However, being launched while the world was in recession mode meant that it was Suzuki's last new car to be made in the US before the company packed up and left the market. In 2011, the Kizashi was launched in India, but as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU), meaning it was imported directly from Japan and had duties of around 105% at the time. Being an imported Suzuki also meant that the rear didn't have the local 'Maruti Suzuki' badge, but an ordinary Suzuki one as seen across the globe. Because of its high price, very few were sold; in a country obsessed with image, the Suzuki badge didn't have any snob value since it's always associated to cheap/small cars. Hence the high price tag wasn't particularly justified. I think it looks fantastic, but it's a shame that Suzuki wasn't able to focus on this car to the extent of developing a successor. While something great really was coming together for Suzuki, unfortunately it was also a warning that it was time to shut shop in various markets.
