I’ve been sharing my life on Instagram....and I mean really sharing...stories, struggles, etc. for three years now. About the same amount of time that I’ve been teaching yoga actually, now that I think about it. But...why? Why do I do this? ⁣ ⁣ Do you know how many times I’ve shared things and asked myself, “Sabrina, why are you sharing this? Does everyone need to know this? Is this too vulnerable?” Each time another voice within me always encourages me to share anyway. And each time I get flooded with messages or in-person interactions saying, “Hey, thank you. I needed that.” EVERY. TIME. ⁣ ⁣ Overtime I’ve realized the reason I share is because I have a deep desire for connection. I have a deep desire for helping people realize they are not alone. I have a DEEP desire to stop the glorification of “perfect lives” on Instagram. ⁣ ⁣ This life is way too hard sometimes to go through alone and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is wrong... in my opinion. We need each other. Even if we don’t know the people we are connecting with. Even if the only person we are connecting to is in our favorite band (hey @jonasbrothers ). I love you guys. Like I love you my little insta community, not the Jonas Brothers. Well okay, I deeply love them too. Okay this caption needs to end. Thanks for listening.

Please be yourself. Be honest with me, and help me understand your point of view; what your heart feels. Without this sharing I have little chance of knowing you beyond my own filters and expectations. I can’t really love you, but only a version of you that I self create. . I was told once that I was “too honest”. I was about 21 at the time and while it was shared somewhat lovingly, I heard “Don’t be yourself. Don’t speak what you really mean. People can’t handle it. You are too much”. I spent the next 20+ years trying to “fit in” socially. I failed miserably. I never felt at home, or myself with others and that was even worse than the fear of being judged. Now in my 50’s, and a corporate leader, I have been lucky enough to work in an environment that values my opinions, encourages me to share my thoughts and even pays me for it. I’ve taken that practice into my personal life and openly now share what I think and how I feel about things. Sharing my feelings is still harder, but, I’m learning and practicing. When we hide who we are, don’t speak our truth, we are keeping ourselves in a box, hiding ourselves from the world’s perceived judgement and in the end over protecting ourselves from the love we deserve. What are we really afraid of; the judgement of others, or rather the fear they may reflect back to us the judgement we place on ourselves? Go live YOUR life.
