The unreadable for not Russian speaking people spins are We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (1920) and the collected works by Andrey Platonov, called by some critics “the Russian George Orwell”. This collection includes, along with his other works, novels The Foundation Pit (written in 1930; first published in 1969/1987) and Chevengur (written in 1926-28; first published in 1972/1988). And if you wonder about Jerome K. Jerome, I discovered his anti-socialist literary gem, The New Utopia (first published in 1891!), in this ghost stories collection when I was reading it a few years ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know I’m missing 1984 in my stack (I skipped it after reading Zamyatin and Platonov in my youth, but now I want to read it), and Ray Bradbury that I’ve read in high school. Should you read We by Yevgeny Zamyatin? Oui Oui! (this is a stupid joke, especially as the book is German)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ After reading Brave New World and 1984, it seemed only natural to read their predecessor. We is the story of D-503, mathematician and devoted believer of the One State, until he falls in love and develops a soul.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As a dystopian, We is kinda lukewarm. It's not as bleak or deconstructive as other dystopians out there. But as a character study, it's fascinating. As D-503 slowly rebels the One State, his writing morphs from logic and rigidity to wonderful rambles which fixate on teeny tiny details: a word, a colour, the small crease of a wrist.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Overall, 5/5 stars.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Have you read We? Petite pause dans les lectures pour le Prix bookstagram du roman étranger avec ce roman publié en 1924. Cela reste cependant un roman étranger : il a été écrit par l'écrivain russe Yevgeny Zamyatin Et c'est le livre que j'ai choisi pour le mois de la Russie dans le cadre du #worldbooktourclub de @bookimia ! Depuis le temps que je voulais lire plus de #litteraturerusse . We (ou Nous autres en français) est dans ma PAL depuis un moment et je suis content de vous en parler maintenant C'est un roman de science-fiction qui n'a pas pu être publié dans l'URSS naissante et qui fut donc publié pour la première fois à New York (il ne sera publié en Russie qu'en 1988). . Avec ce roman, #yevgenyzamyatin est considéré comme l'un des précurseurs du genre de la #dystopie et l'histoire est apparemment relativement similaire à celle de A brave new world d'Aldous Huxley Ce serait également après la lecture de ce livre, qu'Orwell aurait commencé l'écriture de 1984. Bref, m'intéressant de plus en plus aux romans de science-fiction, j'avais très envie de le lire Et ce sera aussi ma lecture mensuelle pour le #challengeliredelasf2019 d'@aniouchkacoinlecture ; je me réserve Asimov pour plus tard dans l'année : quand j'aurais plus de temps pour me lancer dans le cycle des robots . J'ai déjà lu l'intro et la préface de la traductrice (qui m'a tellement emballé, mais je vous reparlerai de ça plus tard) et je sais donc déjà que le personnage principal est mathématicien Je sais pas vous, mais moi les maths, j'ai jamais trouvé ça très sexy. . Pourtant je suis bien souvent obligé de m'y replonger aussi dans mes activités préférées, parmi lesquelles : la cuisine ‍ Je suis vraiment nul quand il s'agit de changer les proportions des recettes par exemple, diviser une pâte en quantités égales pour faire des biscuits convertir des cups en centilitres ou autres principes barbares. Je tiens donc officiellement à remercier ma balance et les sites internets pour les nuls comme moi. Vous et les maths : c'est plutôt une histoire d'amour à la Tristan et Yseult ou une histoire ou seule une personne peut survivre comme avec Harry et Voldemort ?

My top 5 are; Bath Tangle by Georgette Heyer - A regency romance. Heyer has been highly recommend to me. I've been advised her best is 'Arabella' and 'Friday's Child', but I don't have copies... Yet! We by Yevgeny Zamyatin - A Soviet dystopian novel. This was highly recommended to me by an instagrammer with impeccable taste. Stoner by John Williams - "The greatest novel you've never read." Apparently. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson - I was intrigued by the title and the cover looks ominous. The Awakening by Kate Chopin - A beautifully written classic about a woman who seeks and finds love outside of her claustrophobic marriage.
