Przed każdym wyjazdem w nowe miejsca staram się sprawdzić co Nam wolno a na co kategorycznie pozwolić sobie nie możemy. Islandia oferuje Nam ogromne pokłady pięknej natury i poruszając się po niej powinnismy nade wszystko przestrzegać kilku istotnych zasad. Po pierwsze pod żadnym pozorem nie mamy prawa wchodzić na „mech”. Jest piękny, fotogeniczny i „milusi” ale przy głównej drodze za sprawa nieświadomych turystów mocno „wydeptany”. Jego odbudowa zajmuje dziesiątki lat . Kolejny problem to drony. Jest całkowity zakaz poruszania się nimi wśród zwierząt, ludzi oraz w parkach narodowych co jest niestety mocno lekceważone. Ostatnia sprawa. Nie budujmy bezmyślnie dodatkowych kamienistych wieżyczek ponieważ służą one do orientacji w terenie podczas mglistych dni. It was 2:00 am (yes it is that light in June—in Iceland) and we were driving back from Jökulsárlón Lagoon at the base of Vatnájókull. (A glacier with large and wondrous icebergs in the lagoon.) There weren’t any other cars on the road which made it easy to slow down a bit and record this wonder. . . Do you know that Icelandic horses are the only horses in the world that have five gaits (walks)? Walk, trot, canter, pace (many horses in the world can’t do that one either) and tölt. That’s the one only the Icelandic horse can do. (It’s a quicker version of walking, but much more impressive because the horses lift their front legs up high, and only one foot touches the ground at any time.) . . Note to self: the next trip to Iceland needs to include a riding tour. . . Meeting people in the places we travel is truly one of my favorite things. . . On our final camping night in Iceland, we were delighted to see that a Viking Festival had also returned to the same spot. The second pic is a trio of beautiful sisters from last year who let us take their pics again this year (third pic). We tried to find the huge strapping lad from last year (fourth pic) but learned that he had left the day before. . . The first pic is my favorite. These three agreed to let me take a photo with them. The cameraman prepped us with a, “one, two, three,” and at two I realized something was different. When three came, I was up on a Viking shoulder. . . My face shows exactly how I felt: surprised and delighted out of my mind. I couldn’t have asked for a more charming photo. The gentleman Viking had grabbed my calves and quickly lifted me onto his shoulder. . . It’s one of my favorite pics from this year’s visit to Iceland. . .
