I found out last week that I have thyroid cancer. I’m okay! Please don’t worry about me. I’m tougher than I look and this is a very treatable form of cancer that I believe I caught early. Will know more after I meet with the ENT and get more tests done. You guys know I’m an open book so I’ll share more as I go along. DIET is always the main thing you can control when it comes to feeling better. Just because you’re not bleeding or unconscious, doesn’t mean you’re not sick. It’s sad to see how many people have been told by family, friends, or doctors “you’re fine,” or “you’re a hypochondriac,” or “you just need to exercise more.” If you struggle with various symptoms that seem unrelated, it’s likely that they actually are. Occasional diarrhea, waking up in the middle of the night, feeling cold all the time, having dry skin, and feeling irritable or anxious all seem like mild, every day problems that most people deal with and totally unrelated to each other. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. One a society of extreme medical conditions becoming more popular, we have downplayed the more mild symptoms and convinced ourself that it’s nothing to be concerned about or not worth trying to fix. It is important to understand that you can feel better. Even if you’re not on medication, even if you don’t have a diagnosis for something, and even if it’s not “serious,” YOU CAN FEEL BETTER These changes do require some uncomfortable work but it’s so worth it. The number one change in my opinion is diet. Always diet. If you have digestive issues—diet. If you are fatigued—diet. If you have random pain and inflammation—diet. What you put on and in your body is the number one factor that has an immediate impact on how you feel and it also has a long term impact on how you feel. Don’t get diets off the internet. Don’t get diets off Facebook or from your neighbor. Everyone should be tailoring their nutrition to your specific goals and symptoms. If you have questions on where to start, look at some of my past posts on food sensitivities and intolerances, “detoxes,” etc. Go ahead and slide in those DMs as well!

Water is Yin. It has a nourishing and receptive energy and helps us cultivate a greater connection to those aspects of our self . Ever feel a little more balanced and centered after a frolic in the ocean or a swim in a lake? Yeah, me too. Water centers, cools, and calms us . It may seem funny to talk about baths in the summer, but hear me out. As a therapeutic ritual, baths not only help us unwind tense muscles and holding patterns, but also mental and emotional ones . Because summer is the height of yang energy in Chinese medicine (heat, outward expression, energy, and extra socializing), dipping into that yin water can be especially beneficial to reset and restore our nervous systems . If you are needing to release mental or physical toxicity, or stuck feelings try adding some flower petals, epsom salts and essential oils to your next bath. Geranium and Rosemary to clear accumulated toxins . Lavender and Frankincense to soothe the spirit and unwind tension . Eucalyptus and orange to open your airways and shift your perspective . How do you get aligned? . Before I had kids, before I had an office and an acupuncture practice, this was what my mornings looked like . My sacred morning coffee, enjoyed in silence. No real expectations on my time or energy. Some journaling, reading, intention setting, yoga, meditation, breathwork . My life certainly doesn’t look like this now, but I’ll spare you the frenzied details because most of you are probably juggling your fair share . But here is the thing. I need these practices, this quite time, a morning ritual to feel like myself . These days less is more and the quicker I can get it done the better .
